StopWaste Regulatory Fee
Beginning July 1, 2026, a new StopWaste Regulatory Fee will appear on your garbage bill. This is a StopWaste fee – it is not a City of Pleasanton or Pleasanton Garbage Service rate increase.
California law requires local governments to keep compostable and recyclable materials out of landfills, reduce food waste, recover surplus edible food, and prevent plastic bag pollution. These programs help protect the environment, reduce climate pollution, and support the health of our communities. However, the state provides very limited funding to carry out this work.
StopWaste implements these state-mandated programs on behalf of all 17 jurisdictions in Alameda County. The Regulatory Fee allows StopWaste to recover the costs associated with meeting these requirements.
The fee will appear as a separate line item on your garbage bill and will be collected by PGS on StopWaste’s behalf. Keeping the fee separate from regular service rates ensures transparency and does not change your local garbage rates.
The fee will add $0.30 per month for residential customers. For commercial customers the fee will depend on frequency and level of weekly garbage service. The fee is based on $1.10 per month per cubic yard (i.e. 1yd with 1 x week service will incur a $1.10 fee per month).

Thank you for your continued efforts to reduce waste and support a cleaner, more sustainable community.
Our Recycling Center has permanently closed.
Place recyclable materials in your mixed recycling cart (blue lid) and place out for pick up on your regularly scheduled collection day for materials to be properly recycled. For other Recycling Options see https://www.cityofpleasantonca.gov/your-community/garbage-recycling/
